Since we’re using a third-party map provider (MapBox), we don’t have a lot of control over how it presents. The best you can do it adjust the zoom property as you already mentioned. I think the zoom looks pretty close in the two screenshots you included! Additionally, users are most likely looking for locations near them so it may not be helpful to have the map zoomed out so far.
