What are Google My Business Labels and Relationships

I’ve just really noted two fields in the Google My Business Fields block, and I don’t know what they are.

Google Entity Relationship
Google My Business Labels

Can someone clue me in what they’re for?

Hey Bill,

Types of Relationships

There are two different entity relationship models that Google follows that Yext can support:

  1. Independent-Establishment-In: The child entity is a distinct business from the parent entity. (e.g., a Sunglass Hut within a Macy’s or a McDonald’s inside a mall)

  2. Department In: The child entity is a department of the parent entity.(e.g., Albertsons Pharmacy within Albertsons or a Sears Auto Center within a Sears)

Requirements

Google has strict guidelines for department and store-within-a-store listings. For listings to be linked using this feature, they need to have the following:

  • Unique Name
  • Unique primary category
  • If possible, separate storefronts and logos
  • Separate phone numbers that lead directly to staff in said department
  • Independent staff that work only within the department
  • A way to check out (registers) at each department should a customer only require assistance from that department.
  • Separate store locators or store pages on their website are very helpful.

If you have any questions about the rules surrounding this feature, please reach out to a support specialist.

To set up a Google Entity Relationship:

Google relates child entities to parent entities using Place IDs. By specifying a parent entity’s place ID on a child entity, Google knows to link the listings of the two entities together. The following steps will outline retrieving a Place ID to input to the Yext platform to set up a Google Entity Relationship.

  1. Use Google’s Place ID Finder to find the place ID of the parent entity
  2. Navigate to the Google Fields section of your entity profile
  3. Edit the Google Entity Relationship field
  4. Select the type of relationship you would like to create:
  5. Insert the Place ID you found in step 1 of the parent entity
