Adding a Typo as a Synonym : Best Practice?

Hi,

I am working on an account that has been live for three weeks and one of the top 10 most searched queries is a typo. The search should be “start saving” but what users are searching for is “startsaving”. The non-typo search surfaces better results than a search with the typo, so I thought the easiest fix would be to set up “startsaving” as a synonym for “start saving”, but I wasn’t sure if using synonyms in this way was a poor practice or could have unintended consequences. Is there a better way to remedy this?

Secondly, we believe that it’s possible this typo was so frequently searched because the Answers Algorithm is filling it in as autocomplete. Is there a way to stop our algorithm from encouraging users to search typos in this way?

Hi Jonathon,

We’d recommend blacklisting this term in order to stop it from resurfacing.
