Hi! I am trying to complete the Challenge for Module 17 (Users). When I go to the Role Management screen, I do not see the button to add custom roles in the top right. Screenshot attached!

This is a technical bug we just discovered. It seems that the button to add a Custom Role is being blocked by Ad Blockers, like AdblockPlus.
If you’re using AdblockPlus specifically, I know you can go in to your General Settings and uncheck the “Block additional tracking” temporarily to proceed with the challenge.
Our engineers are investigating why this would be happening and we hope to have a full fix soon.

When I go to set a custom role, red text displays the warning, “This email address is already in use. Please enter a different email address or create a username.” When I create a username, red text displays, “This username is already in use. Please enter a different username.” Do you know why this may be happening? I have entered the email and username displayed in the Module 17 Challenge.

Hi Emily,
Yes, this is expected! Usernames must be globally unique, so you’ll need to enter a unique username in order to proceed. By default, we will try to assign the email address as the username, but if that is taken already, then we allow you to set a unique username yourself.
In the challenge, the last bullet instructs you to enter a unique username:
When prompted, choose to create a username and enter something unique (e.g., meredithhitchhikertraining-12345)
When you first fill out the form, you should see this error:
Click on the “create a username”. You may see a warning again, but ignore it - put in a username that is unique (e.g., append a long string of random numbers) and you should be good to go!
