Advanced Category Bulk Update

Hello community!

Can we confirm if there is a best practice for updating Advanced Categories in bulk within the Knowledge Graph? or what the best process would be to have this type of update completed?

Hi Christina,

We recognize that sometimes you might want to override our default category mappings from the Yext categories to our publisher endpoint categories or schema type. To do this you can use Advanced Category Manager.

If you are working with multi-location brand, it is unlikely that you have the permissions to update categories directly so we recommend reaching out to our support team for assistance (more info on why this is the case here).

Once they’ve reviewed your request to make sure the category selections comply with our guidelines, our support reps have two options to assist you:

  • They can bulk edit the entities for you, which is best if the changes are the same across all of your entities (or there are only a few combinations). This works like bulk editing any other field - the rep will just need to know which entities to update, which endpoint you want to override and what the override is.

  • They can use an internal upload tool to update the category overrides on a per-entity/per-endpoint basis (this cannot be done using Entity Upload). This is best if the advanced category overrides are different across the entities (e.g., for a health system that has doctors with different combinations of specialties). This can get quite complex and you’ll need to provide the full list of categories for all locations for any publisher you want to override.
