It seems that the key differentiator between use cases for these two conversion types is that click-based CTAs happen on the listing platform, while tag-based CTAs occurs on a website (with no regard to whether it’s an owned or third party site). Is this correct?
Hi @Tanya_Meyers. Both click-based and tag-based conversions can be associated across our products (neither are exclusive to Listings or Answers for example). It all depends on how you configure them in your account when setting up Conversion Tracking.
For example, you could define clicks on your Yext Listings (such as “Call” or “Get Directions”) as a conversion. You could also define clicks on your Yext Pages or Yext Answers experience (such as "Call’, “Get Directions”, “Order Now”, etc) as a conversion.
The use case for a tag-based conversion comes in when you want to precisely assess the value that Yext drives down the conversion funnel into your own internal or external applications via a JavaScript tag. If you are a restaurant, for example, you may want to see how many orders you’re receiving on your online ordering platform through Yext products. You can accomplish this by setting up a tag-based conversion in your online ordering system, and that will attribute actual online orders to various Yext products. Similarly, a healthcare customer could determine how many appointment bookings can be attributed to Yext Listings or Yext Answers with tag-based conversions. The customer or patient journey into a tag-based conversion can be initiated from any Yext product, so it isn’t exclusive to Pages, Answers, Listings, etc. either.
Hope this helps and let me know if I can answer any additional questions.
Best,
Sam
@Sam_Torres Is spot on.
One thing I’ll add here is that Tag-Based Conversion Tracking is valuable regardless of if it’s a first party property or not.
Tag-Based will allow you to group multiple clicks on a customer journey to a single conversion, where Click-Based will count each click as it’s own Conversion.
Also Tag-Based will allow you to dynamically set the value for each Conversion. With Click-Based you need to select a static Average Value which will be applied to every click.
If you’re looking to more accurately attribute Clicks and their value to Conversions on or off Yext properties then Tag-Based is the way to go!
Mike
Thank you both. This is helpful.
