I was hoping someone could provide an example of the excel file for a bulk service area upload. I have run into some issues in the uploading process and how the file should be organized. I would like to see how 20 service areas for multiple locations can be uploaded together. Thank you
Hi @Ben_Tirjan,
Thanks for this question! You can copy the columns below and paste them as headers in a csv file:
Entity ID | Yext ID | Address > Line 1 | Address > Line 2 | Address > Sublocality | Address > City | Address > Region | Address > Postal Code | Address > Extra Description | Service Area Places > Name | Service Area Places > Type |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
XXXXX | 1234567 | 123 Main Street | (optional) | (optional) | New York | NY | 10001 | (optional) | NYC | (Type) |
Please note that Yext supports the following service area business types, which you use in the last column:
Zip Code
Neighborhood
City
County
State
Let us know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Jamie
Hi Jamie,
This was very helpful thank you! I was wondering for 20 service areas, should I have 20 columns labeled Service Area Places > Type and then by row enter the 20 desired cities?
Hi @Ben_Tirjan,
Of course!
For 20 different service areas, you can just leave the set number of header columns and then enter each city’s service area information in individual rows.
For example:
Entity ID | Yext ID | Address > Line 1 | Address > Line 2 | Address > Sublocality | Address > City | Address > Region | Address > Postal Code | Address > Extra Description | Service Area Places > Name | Service Area Places > Type |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
XXXXX | 1234567 | 123 Main Street | (optional) | (optional) | New York | NY | 10001 | (optional) | NYC | City |
XXXXX | 3456789 | 123 Oak Street | (optional) | (optional) | Albany | NY | 11111 | (optional) | Albany | City |
XXXXX | 2345678 | 123 Park Ave | (optional) | (optional) | New York | NY | 10011 | (optional) | Midtown | Neighborhood |
XXXXX | 3456789 | 123 Maple Blvd | (optional) | (optional) | New York | NY | 10011 | (optional) | New York | State |
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
Jamie
I’m still a bit confused here.
Entity ID Yext ID Address > Line 1 Address > City Address > Region Address >
12345 1234567 123 fort lauderdale ave Fort Lauderdale FL
Postal Code Service Area Places > Name Service Area Places > Type
123456 Fort Lauderdale Miami
Service Area Places > Type Service Area Places > Type Service Area Places > Type
Boca Raton Key West Deerfield Beach
Would setting up the location - then entering 20 cities as service areas into the service area place > type work?
Or do I need to reenter all of the locations information 20 times and do 1 service area per service area places > type?
Hi Ben,
I think you’re asking about what to do if there are multiple service areas associated with each entity. When uploading data to Yext, you’ll want to make sure all the content for a single entity is in the same row. Each row represents a different entity. You can add columns at the end to signal multiple service areas on the same entity - just add a pair for Service Area Places > Name and Service Area Places > Type for each additional service area. It would look something like:
Entity ID | Yext ID | Address > Line 1 | Address > Line 2 | Address > Sublocality | Address > City | Address > Region | Address > Postal Code | Address > Extra Description | Service Area Places > Name 1 | Service Area Places > Type 1 | Service Area Places > Name 2 | Service Area Places > Type 2 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
XXXXX | 1234567 | 123 Main Street | (optional) | (optional) | New York | NY | 10001 | (optional) | NYC | City | Rochester | City |
XXXXX | 3456789 | 123 Oak Street | (optional) | (optional) | Albany | NY | 11111 | (optional) | Albany | City | ||
XXXXX | 2345678 | 123 Park Ave | (optional) | (optional) | New York | NY | 10011 | (optional) | Midtown | Neighborhood | ||
XXXXX | 3456789 | 123 Maple Blvd | (optional) | (optional) | New York | NY | 10011 | (optional) | New York | State | New Jersey | State |
To first clarify one of Jamie’s points - For the Service Area Places > Type field, you’ll have to pick one from the list that Jamie gave above. This corresponds with the Service Area Places > Name field which will actually specify the name of the service area.
In the first row of the table Jamie gave above, the service area type is “City”, which is named “NYC”.
Hope this helps!
