Geomodifiers | Yext Hitchhikers Platform

Overview

Geomodifiers are names of locations that are commonly appended to the name of a business. In Yext, they are often included on location listings or pages, like on this Google listing:

Geomodifiers may also be seen in the following formats:

  • Galaxy Grill (NYC)
  • Galaxy Grill of NYC
  • Galaxy Grill — NYC
  • Galaxy Grill: NYC

Geomodifiers can be designated by a business uniquely for each location, and are usually a city, region, shopping center, mall, or some other location descriptor.

Geomodifiers in Yext

It is not recommended to include a geomodifier in the Name field on location entities in Content. Many publishers, including Google and Apple, do not accept geomodifiers and may suspend listings that do not follow their naming guidelines.

It is best practice to use the default Business Details > Geomodifier field in Content so that Yext can sync the geomodifier to publishers that support them. This field is automatically included for location entity types.

Neighborhoods

Some accounts may prefer to internally structure location data to include the neighborhood of a location, in cases where a business has multiple locations in the same city. This can be done using the default Business Details > Neighborhood field.

Neighborhood information does not sync to listings or any publishers, and is used for internal location management purposes only (such as for data organization, or to use on Pages).
