Step 5: Select Alternative Names and Websites

Overview

Steps #3-4 are all about defining what search queries Search Tracker will run. This step is about how Search Tracker will identify your location in the search results.

By default, Search Tracker will look for your location’s name and Website URL, and Alternate URL in the search results, based on the fields for that location in the platform.

However, there are two fields that you can use to expand what other results Search Tracker will consider a match with your location: Alternative Names and Alternative Websites.

Alternative Names

In the Alternative Names field, you can add up to three alternate names that are used for your business, or any common misspellings. If any results are returned with one of those alternative names, Search Tracker will consider that result a match with your location.

For example, if a company like Apple was using Search Tracker to track the performance of their store locations, they might consider adding “Apple Store”, “Apple 5th Avenue”, “Genius Bar”, etc. as Alternative Names.

Alternative Websites

Additionally, the Alternative Websites field allows you to add up to three alternate domains that you use for your business.

This field should be used, for example, if you have multiple subdomains and want to make sure all are counted as matches by Search Tracker - e.g., “locations.brand.com”, “search.brand.com”, etc.
