Update to Domains UI: Ability to Select Integration Option

An exciting new feature that will help Answers integration domain set-up is now available!

Adding your Domain

When you navigate to your Domains tab, click + Add New Domain. You’ll see the following modal. From here, add the subdomain for your client. Regardless of whether it’s a JS Snippet or Subdomain integration, you’ll want to indicate this as a client-facing domain - ex answers.domain.com or search.domain.com.

Next, you’ll indicate the integration type. For a refresher on these two types, please see this module. If you do not yet know which integration type your client wants to pursue, select ‘Both’. You will need to change this later once the integration option is confirmed.

After that, you’re done! You can now associate the domain to a site.

Using Your Domain

You’ll assign the domain to a site like you have in the past. You’ll need to remember a few details depending on the option you’ve chosen.

If you’ve chosen the subdomain option, your client will need to set up a CNAME record pointing to the bridge domain listed in the table. Once that’s set up, you will be able to publish to production.

If you’ve chosen the JS Snippet option, you’ll be able to publish to subdomain.domain.com.pagescdn.com immediately. Once you associate the domain to your site, you can publish to production. When viewing Production, you’ll need to append pagescdn.com, and your integration instructions should list subdomain.domain.com.pagescdn.com/iframe.js as the src url for the embed script.

If you’ve chosen both, both serving options above will work once you publish the site to production.

Known Limitations

  1. There is no current way to view the integration option you’ve selected, nor change it if you’ve selected ‘Both’ to start.
  2. For the JS Snippet option, the production environment will list the base URL instead of where the content is being served (ie. subdomain.domain.com.pagescdn.com) image
  3. Sandbox accounts will follow a different flow. If you are creating an account in sandbox and want to use the JS Snippet option, you’ll need to append sbx.pagescdn.com when you create the subdomain.
