Entity Export Overview

Entity Export allows you to get data out of Yext as easily as you can put it in. With just a few short clicks you can export whichever entities and fields you need, with many different export configuration options.

We believe that you, the customer, own your data. You can access and export any and all of your data at any time from the Yext platform.

In addition to being able to export ad-hoc, you can also save export settings to export again in the future, or even automate delivery of those saved exports to an email or SFTP/FTP on a regular basis. You’ll learn more about those advanced features in the next few units.

Common Export Use Cases

There are many reasons why you might want to export data from your account:

• Send data to another team or system
• Send data to another vendor or data provider
• Audit your data to check for missing or incorrect content
• Prepare for an upload so you can augment the existing data
• As a precaution before you upload in case anything goes wrong

Whatever the case may be, we have the tools for you to do so easily and quickly. Everyone should be in the habit of exporting their data on some sort of cadence. We’ll walk through the process in detail in the next unit.

Components of the Export

There are a few main components of the export:

1. The Data Format – this includes which entities to export, default header language (you can override this in the export scheme step), which version of data to export, etc. You’ll learn more about the options in the next unit.

2. The File Format – this includes the type of file you want to format and the layout of the file

3. The Export Scheme – this includes which fields you want to export, how you want to format them, header information and field order. We have a few pre-built ones that you can select from, but in most cases you will be creating a custom format that makes the most sense for your use case.
