Introduction to the Yext Knowledge Graph | Yext Hitchhikers Platform
What You’ll Learn
In this section, you will learn:
- What entities and entity types are in Yext
- How the Yext Knowledge Graph powers other Yext products, like Pages, Search, and Listings
What is an Entity?
In Yext, the data objects in the Knowledge Graph are called entities. An entity represents a real-world object that is a part of your business. Common examples of entities are:
- Locations (retail stores, offices, etc.)
- Restaurants
- Products
- Job postings
- Professionals (doctors, nurses, consultants, etc.)
- FAQs
Each entity also contains its own set of information. For example, a location entity will contain the address, hours, website, and phone number to reach that location.
Entities are the core of the Yext platform, since they hold the data that is used to build downstream experiences in Yext Search, Pages, and Listings.
Entity Types
Businesses often have many different kinds of individual entities that make up their Knowledge Graph. In Yext, you can define which entity types you want to use to build your Knowledge Graph based on your industry and business goals. You can then link different entities together to form the object relationships that will support your search experience, website pages, and listings.
Here are some examples of what entity types a restaurant, healthcare organization, and financial organization might decide to use in their Knowledge Graph:
Each entity type also comes structured with relevant data fields that are also customizable to your needs. Here’s an example of what a Healthcare Professional entity can look like:
Building Your Knowledge Graph in Yext
The Knowledge Graph is the centralized hub for all the data that defines your business’s entities. Storing your data as entities in the Knowledge Graph enables you to create experiences across other areas of the Yext platform, like Pages, Search, and Listings.
