Conversion Tracking Set Up: Significance of "conversionTrackingEnabled" field

Hi,

I had a question about setting up the Conversion Tracking feature for Answers: do we have to enable the “conversionTrackingEnabled” field in the global config file as “true,” even if we’re just doing click-based tracking? Or does setting that value to “true” mean we’re allowing for the use of our conversion tracking cookie?

Any clarification on what that field actually does, as well as clarity on whether or not we need to set that value as true for click-based conversion tracking would be super helpful.

Thanks!

Setting “conversionTrackingEnabled” to true causes our conversion tracking cookie to be dropped on site visitors who interact with Answers. This means that if those users go on to complete a tag-triggered conversion action later, we can attribute that conversion to their use of Answers.

If you are not using tag-triggered conversion actions (i.e. either you are only using click-triggered conversion actions, or you are not using conversion tracking at all), then there is no value to the cookie, and you do not need to set “conversionTrackingEnabled” to true.

@jonkyext This is great, thanks for the clarification! With that in mind, will this “Not Enabled” message continue to exist in the platform for click-based conversions? (See attached image).

If so, it is slightly misleading, since no action will need to be taken in the global config file for click-based conversion tracking.

We are thinking of ways to clarify the UX for exactly this reason. It should be clear if your account is “good to go” based on the types of conversions you have set up, and not misleading in this way.

Awesome, that’s great to hear - thanks. Is this something that’s on the immediate roadmap? Or further down the line?

It’s fairly high on our list
