I’ve gone and installed the needed prerequisites and I get to the 3rd step of the 2nd unit and I can’t find the config file on my desktop as well as an api key for the next module

When you ran yext pages new , did you select Yes when you were prompted to populate your sandbox account with seed data? If you did, your sandbox account will have a Search experience with an API key. To find the API Key, navigate to Search → [Your Search Experience] → Experience Details. You will find the API key and experience key here.
When you say config file, are you referring to tailwind.config.cjs ? You will find at file in the new repo that you just created with yext pages new.
