How do I identify "Other" traffic in Analytics?

I’m seeing a lot of “Other” traffic, and I’m curious if we can break this down further.

Hey Ben!

I’m assuming from your screenshot that you are looking at a Pages metric dimensioned by Referrer, but let me know if not. If so, OTHER means the referrer is one we do not recognize (ie. partner/publisher is not integrated with Yext). For context, here is a complete list of definitions for each value under the Referrer dimension:

  • If a referrer is GOOGLE, FACEBOOK, YAHOO, YELP or BING, the publisher name will be shown
  • EMERGING means the referrer is a from a recognized Yext publisher other than Google/Facebook/Yahoo/Yelp/Bing (ie. 8coupons.com)
  • UNKNOWN means there’s no referrer (ie. direct traffic or user in incognito mode)
  • INTERNAL means the referrer url is the same as the client’s domain (ie. clicks to a local page from the main domain)
  • OTHER means the referrer is one we do not recognize (ie. partner/publisher is not integrated with Yext)

While you cannot drill down the OTHER dimension to the specific referrer, you can break this down further by adding the Platform dimension. In report builder, select Table as your chart type, and add the following metrics and dimensions:

Now you can see within the the page views that have OTHER as a referrer, which platform they are coming from as well.

Hope this helps!

How is internal configured? This client has answers and I would expect that to show up here as “internal” but I don’t see that.

@Ben_McGinnis Traffic is marked as internal if the referrer domain is the same as your pages domain. So as long as the Answers experience is on the same domain as your pages, traffic to your landing pages from Answers should be included under INTERNAL.

Is the chart you are viewing at the account level or for a specific subset of entities? Can you provide the name of standard dashboard or overview screen on which you are viewing this chart as well as any filters you are applying?

hi Theresa, thanks for responding. Answers & Pages are not on the same domain. Is there a way to fix this so that it shows up as internal anyway?

@Ben_McGinnis With our summer release we resolved this issue where any Page Views from the Customer’s Domain or a Yext CDN which is powering a Customer’s Domain is now getting categorized as Internal.
