Yelp Listings | Yext Hitchhikers Platform
Claiming Listings
It is not guaranteed that listings Yext is powering will show up as “Claimed” on Yelp. Listings may go live while syncing our content, but still show up as “Unclaimed”. In this case, you should claim listings directly through the Yelp UI.
When Yext creates listings on Yelp, they are not automatically linked to your Yelp account. You need to claim them directly. Even as part of the Review Response and Review Monitoring process, we do not claim the listing.
Note:Yext can only help clients claim their Yelp listings if they have Yelp Review Response.
How can I tell if my listing is already claimed?
Under the Name section, you should see a “Claimed” status.
Listings Matching
Yelp should accept our matches, but in some cases, they might return an error with the unavailable reason: “Yelp is unable to match to the listing you indicated..”. If you see this do the following:
- Opt out of the location
- Opt in the same location
- If the unavailable reason persists, reach out to your account team.
Yelp is returning a bad match
Yelp has their own internal matching so even if we try to create a new listing or match to one listing, they may match us to a different listing. If this happens and we overwrite the listing data on the bad match, reach out to Yext for assistance with creating a new listing and reverting the bad match. Please note that even though Yext can create a new listing, Yelp may decide to merge this listing in the future.
Listing Suppression
Suppression is only offered for SMB. Suppression requests are submitted once a day. Yelp does not remove listings but will instead merge suppressed listings to their duplicate listing. When listings are merged, photos and reviews from both listings are combined.
Yelp manually reviews suppression requests, and the process can take up to 4 weeks. If a client wants their listing removed from Yelp, we treat this as a suppression. In this case, that link would lead to a 404 page.
Content Updates and Syncing
After a listing is live, we only push updated data to Yelp instead of the full listing data. For instance, if a location changes its hours, we’ll push the updated hours to Yelp. However, we will not push any data from unchanged fields.
If you are updating data directly in Yelp, we will not automatically override those changes unless you update those fields in Yext. For example, if an edit has been made within the Yelp UI to a listing’s name and then, for the same location, the hours are updated within Yext, we will only push out the hours field to Yelp. We will not push out or override the name data since that information was not updated within the Yext account.
External Edits
We do not lock listings from external edits once they’ve gone live. Instead, Yelp users and business owners who have claimed their Yelp business can submit edits directly through the Yelp UI.
Edits made directly in Yelp will go through Yelp’s manual review. If they pass review, it can override the Yext data that is being displayed on the listing. Note that external edits will not change the data that is stored in the Yext Knowledge Graph.
Yelp Indexing
It takes two weeks for Yelp to re-index their listings. Therefore, we recommend waiting two weeks after making data updates before reaching out to your account team for assistance.
Incorrect Listing Information in SERP and URL
NAP (Name, Address, and Phone number) changes appear in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page) and URL, but there could be a delay in what is displayed if you update this data. If your content is appearing correctly on your listing, but the SERP and URL are showing old information, please wait two weeks for these changes to be reflected.
