Yelp Menus | Yext Hitchhikers Platform

Provider Requirements

We are able to sync menus on Yelp for clients who are on Yext for Food and do not have a pre-existing relationship with another menu provider.

A Yext Menu ECL may not be displayed on the listing due to the following provider limitations/restrictions:

  1. If a SinglePlatform menu is showing, please confirm that the relationship with SinglePlatform has been cancelled. We can try to escalate the issue to Yelp, but we will need clear proof that you terminated their relationship with SinglePlatform before any action can be taken. After Yelp reviews the escalation, it is still possible that they will choose to keep another menu on the listing over Yext’s.

  2. If the business has ordering through GrubHub or some other third-party source enabled on their listing, Yelp will always prioritize that source’s listing over Yext. For example, if they have ordering through GrubHub enabled, Yelp will display the GrubHub menu over Yext’s. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to further escalate to replace the menu.

The general guidelines for menus on Yelp can be found below. Symbols will be changed to ‘-’ to fit Yelp’s content policies.

Business owners have two options on Yelp for providing menu information. Either OR both of the following options may be submitted:

  1. Menu URL - provides a menu URL that links to their website. Menu URLs can be submitted by business owners from the Business Site or Yelp’s Main Site.

  2. Full Menu - displays a Full Menu through one of our partners. The Full Menu feature is an interactive, digital menu sent to Yelp directly from menu partners.

Menu URLs are direct links to an online menu on a business’s website. These links take users away from Yelp. Menu URLs are preferred for businesses that update their menus daily or weekly.

Menu URLs should link to a business’s primary website. Third-party transactional websites are prohibited. Yelp defines third-party transactional websites as websites created and hosted by third-party companies that act as online transactional platforms between sellers and buyers.

Existing menu URLs should only be updated if a better link is available or if the link is broken/ invalid.

Full Menus

Full menus are interactive and allow users to view photos of menu offerings, view reviews about a specific menu item, and see price points, all within the Yelp UI. Reviews and photos are displayed when menu items are mentioned explicitly in them (as part of the review content or photo caption). Photos are only shown on the menu summary view when there is a significant portion of coverage across menu items.

Full Menu General Guidelines

  • Full Menus are to be provided for restaurants only.
  • Full Menus should show the business’s normal offering; catering menus, special event menus, and take-away menus should be avoided.
  • Full Menus should be kept current as incorrect menu information can lead to bad user and business owner experiences.
  • Yelp will determine in its sole discretion the priority of menu providers when multiple providers supply menu content for the same business
  • Business owners may choose not to display the partner-provided Full Menu in favor of their own menu URL; Yelp will disable the partner-provided menu upon request from the business owner.

Formatting Requirements

The formatting standards outlined below should be used for all menus, regardless of how a business formats its own menus.

  • All item titles and section names should be capitalized
  • The first word in all descriptions should be capitalized. All proper nouns should maintain their capitalization.
  • All prices should include a currency symbol and two decimal places.
  • Partners are responsible for reviewing menu quality and ensuring only high-quality content is provided to Yelp for display to users
  • Partners are prohibited from sending non-menu content to Yelp within the menu feature. Promotions, temporary discounts, business descriptions, solicitations, etc. are not permitted.
